The Open Air Gallery

Back to Blog

If you wander down the narrow streets of San Antonio on the west coast of the island,
you’ll notice many buildings adorned in huge splashes of colour forming pieces of fascinating art.

Known as the Open Air Gallery, these incredible murals have been created as part of the annual Bloop International Proactive Arts Festival, where each year since 2011 specific artists are invited to create these paintings in line with that years theme. This year we saw installations, street art, architecture, interactive installations, photography, parties, video mappings, and much more by talents from all around the world. It’s definitely an exhibition to pop in your diary!

Below is one of the most famous and photographed murals of the town, located not too far from the bus station beside the roundabout of Es Verru and Cerrer Bisbe Torres. This complex painting by Sheffield based street artist Phlegm is called ‘Control’  which shows a robot examining parts of his own brain!

This one may be familiar if you’ve ever been to Ibiza Rocks. Located just by the entrance ‘Appearance’ was created in 2012 by Ukrainian street art duo Interesni Kazki!

The festival is a free-to-attend art exhibition that encourages you to open your mind and reflect on current social issues through art, and what better place to do it than our magical White Isle!

Although 2018 dates for the Bloop International Proactive Arts Festival are still yet to be released, be sure to keep an eye on their website for more information and updates – bloop-festival.com
