The day-to-day runnings of the VIP area is a well oiled-machine run by our VIP Manager Guido. As part of our outside-the-box careers advice series, you asked Guido questions about how he got to where he is now. Here, he shares his background.

How did you get into VIP management?

Studying, working hard and being in the right place at the right time are the keys to success.

I started my career in hospitality working for a catering company. I needed money and experience so I accepted any job that the company offered me, sometimes they needed waiters, other times cooks and other times bartenders, for me it was all the same – I enjoyed everything.

After this experience, I started traveling and working on what I liked. I’ve worked in the hospitality industry in Barcelona, Puerto Banús, London and Buzios until I arrived in Ibiza in 2011. A few years after my arrival on the island I started working at O Beach Ibiza, where I was given the opportunity to show my skills and I did not waste it.

Five years later I am still as happy as I was on my first day.

What do you love most about your job?

One of the things I like the most about my job is that everyday I have the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world. We have many clients and behind each one of them there’s a different story. It’s great to see them enjoy themselves at O Beach Ibiza and it’s even better when they come back another day to repeat the experience.

Another thing I love is that I work with some of the best professionals on the island. This allows me to take in different points of view from my own and learn new things, I consider this very important to maintain motivation day by day.

How would you describe VIP service?

The VIP service is a personalised service according to the needs and tastes of the client. It must be dazzling, friendly and flexible, anticipating and exceeding the needs and expectations of every guest.

We’re proud to say that our staff is specialised in VIP service and we receive a lot of positive feedback about it everyday. My mantra is “Just relax and enjoy, our amazing staff will do the rest.”

What experience lead you to your current role?

Every single experience in my life was a boost to get me to my current role and to who I am nowadays, but my studies were essential to be able to grow in this highly competitive industry.

When I was 18 years old I studied a degree in hospitality, this gave me a very broad vision of how the operations in the floor, the bar and the kitchen run.

Years later and with much more experience, I completed a master’s degree in “Hotel Management and Administration” in addition to the many related courses such as “coaching”, “revenue management” or “enology”.

Outside hospitality, I played football for over 10 years in my hometown. That was very important when learning to be part of a team. My colleagues back then are still my best friends and I want to take the opportunity to thank them for so much. “Thank you 84”.

What qualities do you look for in your team?

Teamwork, integrity, professionalism, responsibility, discipline and good interpersonal skills.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Outside of work I usually wake up early and exercise. It can be Crossfit, Footvolley, running, paddle tennis or swimming in the sea, any exercise is good to wake up the body and feel great throughout the day.

At O Beach Ibiza, every day is different, but most of my time is focused on organising and supervising daily operations, dealing with situations and solving problems.

When I come home at night I sleep like a baby…
