Hawaiian Tropic Tips And Hints

Stay Sun Savvy
With Hawaiian Tropic!

Last weeks temperatures hit a scorching 36 degrees and it’s only going to get hotter and hotter!!! And I know what you’re thinking, it’s fairly obvious as we’ve all (including myself) have become completely and utterly obsessed with it…The Tan! You know, that shimmering, bronzed, sun-kissed look we see on TV  and in magazines. That`s what we all crave! Yet if you’re anything like me, even after hours, days, weeks under the sun the closest I can ever get to having that golden glow is by using the Valencia filter on Instagram. #nofilter

And then I realised, I’ve been doing it wrong. The whole time. That’s years of being completely oblivious and extremely naive to the real sun care that should be taken, to not only achieve that perfect tan but to also do it safely instead of putting myself at risk.

So Hawaiian Tropic have come to the rescue to educate us all by using their top tips, hints and facts so that you can be sun savvy and keep your skin safe this summer.

FACT:The Skin Cancer Foundation endorses a wide range of Hawaiian Tropic products with an SPF of 15 and above, thanks to the high levels of broad-spectrum protection they offer

#1. Take your time!
Although it’s tempting to put it on and then head straight out, it’s important to apply your sun protection at least 20 minutes before indulging in the sun. That gives it enough time to build up a good defence and ensure you’re properly protected.

#2 Be Generous!
Although it may seem like a lot, you actually need to apply more sun cream than you think.Your face needs about a teaspoon while your arms and legs need about a tablespoon between them for the best coverage. Adjust accordingly for your torso. Don’t forget easily forgotten areas like your ears, knees, elbows, calves and feet!

FACT:The closer you get to the equator, the more intense the sun’s rays are. The message? More, more, more! Apply a higher SPF and more often, if you want to stay safely protected!

#3 Be Sun Sensible!
Between the hours of 10am and 3pm, the sun is at its hottest and most intense and being exposed to it all day can cause the body and scalp to overheat or burn. Avoid feeling hot and bothered during these hours by rocking a big hat* or stylish cover-up on top of your Hawaiian Tropic sun protection. Or even better, find a spot of cool shade to do some people watching!

*sorry to but in HT. Girls you have to admit that after Rachel Green wore that incredibly large floppy hat in that F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode, that it was ALL that you wanted to own! Well girls this is your Rachel moment.Embrace it.

#4 More Is More!
Swimming, sweating and towel drying can remove sun protection from your skin’s surface,so be sure to reapply as needed. We recommend at least every 2 hours or more often if necessary, ensuring you apply to your face and entire body.

FACT:You can still burn through cloud and even car windows, so apply your Hawaiian Tropic sun care even on hazy days.

#5. Replace, Don’t Reuse!
A lot of people don’t realise that sun protection has a shelf life of 12-18 months after opening. After this time, it can lose its efficacy, so it’s really important that you stock up on your favourite Hawaiian Tropic products each year to protect skin all summer long. You can check the shelf life of a product by looking on the back label for a jar symbol with the wording ‘12M’ or ‘18M’.

#6. After Sun For After Care
After a day in the sun, re-hydrate your skin to prevent it from peeling or looking dull. Unlike standard moisturisers, Hawaiian Tropic After Sun products contain ingredients carefully chosen to soothe and cool irritated skin, helping to reduce the negative effects of harmful rays. Top tip: keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling sensation!

Sunshine stamp!

UV rays can be classified into 3 regions:

sun-logo-md UVA: think ‘A’ for ageing – longer rays that penetrate deep into the skin without being seen, they release free radicals that can cause wrinkles and age spots and can lead to the development of skin cancer.

sun-logo-md UVB: think ‘B’ for burning – rays that attack the top layer of the skin, either tanning or burning the surface. These can also lead to the development of skin cancer.

sun-logo-mdUVC – short rays don’t penetrate the earth’s ozone layer.
